Windows Live Messenger it the famous instant messaging program developed by Microsoft,it is a great way for users to communicate.

last Live version has added important modifications that have made the program a lot more practical and costumizable:
- Eliminated the “Shared Files Folder”, that has been replaced by the Windows SkyDrive integration, a virtual hard drive with 25 GBs of storage space.
- Improved usability, thanks to the elimination of unnecessary buttons.
- Windows Live Wave 3 design in the interface, that allows the use of Dynamic Display Pictures as themes.
- Easy to customize backgrounds and sounds.
- New “Favourites” category, to have easier access to your favoured contacts.
- New “Share Photographs” feature, that is an easy way to share your photographs with your contacts.
- New “Groups” feature, to create conversations only with the contacts we choose.
- Start sessions simulatneously on various computers.
- Transform imputed URLs into links so our contacts can visit them.
- Deactivate incoming URLs so we don’t accidentally click on a link that may pose a risk.

The Windows Live Messenger installer also includes other Internet orientated applications, like: Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Toolbar or Windows Live Mail.

 Latest updates:
- Improved the programs features.
- Fixed some bugs.

Requirements: The installer connects to Internet to download the application, so it is necessary to have an Internet connection to install it.

Cashing in on blogging as a profession

It was as advertisements no different from any other that appear in the classified section of the daily newspaper the only thing setting it apart was its heading, ‘Bloggers Wanted!
The advertisement spelled out the fact that company wanted a full-time blogger to make regular blog entries on topics of their concerns. Yes, that company was willing to train the ideal candidate to make just the right entries. Moreover, it spelled out some ideal characteristics that they were looking for in the right candidate to fill the post of that
Blogger interestingly this was an advertisement by a Pakistani company.

Good English: it goes without saying that the level of English must be of some standard of course; editing is something every blog entry has to go through. However, it your immediate editor has to rewrite all your entries to ensure that they make sense to the audience, you can’t imagine that you will hold onto your job for long.
Flair for writing: there are people whose English grammar is perfact, but they
Cannot express themselves. This lack of expression may be due to less exposure to the written word. If you have to express technical Knowledge in layman terms,
You definitely need to possess above average writing skills
Specialized Knowledge: as blogging jobs become more specialized, it is understandable that the individual applying for that job has to have a very good Idea of what he/she is writing about. With the likes of Google and Wikipedia In cyberspace, it is true that no subject is truly beyond anyone. However, prior Knowledge of the subject on which the blog is focused, is definitely a huge plus, which will give the applicant an edge over those who have little or no knowledge?
Regularity: Each job has a specific time period within which they want a new entry posted on the blog. This frequency is usually specified within the advertisement, any
Applicant must therefore consider his/her schedule very carefully to ensure that he/she
Can meet this requirement of posting a new entry within the stipulated time period
The aforementioned job requirements should ideally pose no serious problems to any
Contender in this country who is seriously considering taking up the post of a part-time
Blogger however there are some serious constraints which can hamper the growth of
Pakistani bloggers one major constraint is poor language skills. English is, after all, a
Second language for many it is expected that the level of grammar and expression in some bloggers is below average. A second and more serious constraint has to do with the average Pakistani mindset. The number of people who actually consider copy/pasting
Content from other sources as plagiarism, is dismally low. Lock of originality coupled with this tendency to copy content without remorse is something which can get a blogger
Fired within days of course, this is not to suggest that all Pakistani bloggers plagiaries content. However, even a cursory look at some Pakistani bloggers does reveal that quite a few of them do fulfill the general criteria of most of the blogging jobs. Even individuals
Who are not bloggers in the first place, but know something about the field for which a blogger is required, can get the required training. Blogging jobs have an added advantage. Most of them do not require an individual to formally join a company. One can easily work as a freelancer, from the comfort of one’s own home, provided a functioning personal computer and a decent internet connection. However, caution is always necessary especially in the area of payment.
At the end of day, blogging jobs are definitely a big ego-booster for the average blogger. Finally, the corporate world is recognizing the value of blogs. Whether it is hiring a blogger to post regular promotional entries on the official company blog or as part of the company website team, the possibilities are endless. One can only hope that, over time, companies give more time and attention to the potential of blogging, and hence increase the number of job opportunities available to Pakistani bloggers.

Disable CD Autorun ( WinXP PRO Only)

1) Click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC

2) Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System.

3) Locate the entry for Turn autoplay off and modify it as you desire.

Speed Up Browsing
When you connect to a web site your computer sends information back and forth. Some of this information deals with resolving the site name to an IP address, the stuff that TCP/IP really deals with, not words. This is DNS information and is used so that you will not need to ask for the site location each and every time you visit the site. Although Windows XP and Windows XP have a pretty efficient DNS cache, you can increase its overall performance by increasing its size. You can do this with the registry entries below:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters]
“CacheHashTableBucketSize”=dword:00000001
“CacheHashTableSize”=dword:00000180
“MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit”=dword:0000fa00
“MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit”=dword:0000012d

Make a new text file and rename it to dnscache.reg. Then copy and paste the above into it and save it. Merge it into the registry.

DISABLE INDEXING SERVICES

Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don’t search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:

1. Go to Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Double-click Add/Remove Programs
5. Click the Add/Remove Window Components
6. Uncheck the Indexing services
7. Click Next

OPTIMISE DISPLAY SETTINGS

Windows XP can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimize:

1.Go to Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click System
5. Click Advanced tab
6. In the Performance tab click Settings
7. Leave only the following ticked:
- Show shadows under menus
- Show shadows under mouse pointer
- Show translucent selection rectangle
- Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop
- Use visual styles on windows and buttons

SPEEDUP FOLDER BROWSING

You may have noticed that everytime you open my computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers everytime you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing significantly:

1. Open My Computer
2. Click on Tools menu
3. Click on Folder Options
4. Click on the View tab.
5. Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box
6. Click Apply
7. Click Ok
8. Reboot your computer

REMOVE THE DESKTOP PICTURE

Your desktop background consumes a fair amount of memory and can slow the loading time of your system. Removing it will improve performance.
1. Right click on Desktop and select Properties
2. Select the Desktop tab
3. In the Background window select None
4. Click Ok

DISABLE UNNECESSARY SERVICES

Because Windows XP has to be all things to all people it has many services running that take up system resources that you will never need. Below is a list of services that can be disabled on most machines:

Alerter
Clipbook
Computer Browser
Distributed Link Tracking Client
Fast User Switching
Help and Support – (If you use Windows Help and Support leave this enabled)
Human Interface Access Devices
Indexing Service
IPSEC Services
Messenger
Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (disabled for extra security)
Portable Media Serial Number
Remote Desktop Help Session Manager (disabled for extra security)
Remote Procedure Call Locator
Remote Registry (disabled for extra security)
Remote Registry Service
Secondary Logon
Routing & Remote Access (disabled for extra security)
Server
SSDP Discovery Service – (Unplug n’ Pray will disable this)
Telnet
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Upload Manager
Universal Plug and Play Device Host
Windows Time
Wireless Zero Configuration (Do not disable if you use a wireless network)
Workstation
To disable these services:

Go to Start and then Run and type “services.msc”
Doubleclick on the service you want to change
Change the startup type to ‘Disable”

REMOVE ANNOYING DELETE CONFIRMATION MESSAGES

Although not strictly a performance tweak I love this fix as it makes my machine ‘feel’ faster. I hate the annoying ‘are you sure?’ messages that XP displays, especially if I have to use a laptop touchpad to close them. To remove these messages:

1. Right-click on the ‘Recycle Bin’ on the desktop and then click ‘Properties’

2. Clear the ‘Display Delete Confirmation Dialog’ check box and click ‘Ok’

If you do accidently delete a file don’t worry as all is not lost. Just go to your Recycle Bin and ‘Restore’ the file

Some have termed blogs as ‘a new form of journalism. While others have identified them as’ enterprise solutions that are creating empires of nano-publishing from topical
Journals of politics, food, movies, music sports and religion, to simple personal diaries
Featuring everything from sentimental ramblings of college going teens, to nostalgic
Re-collections of the retired, blogs have also been referred to as” back-up brains’ if you
Are willing to believe the hype, webbogs are very much here to stay.
In essence, blogs are pretty much content delivery systems, which use a relatively simple technology; a webpage attached to a database with some tem plating tweaks, to deliver virtually any kind of content to readers blogs aren’t limited to the kind of content they deliver, infect pod casts, photo Blogs and video blogs are quite popular nowadays according to technorati, a website that keeps track of blogs, there are as many as there million blogs on the World Wide Web
Compare this number with statistics from a few years back. People had been maintaining blogs long before the term was coined in 1997 by jorn barger in his robot Wisdom Weblog. However by the beginning of 1999 one pre-eminent site listed only 23 blogs in total. This changed when blogger was launched later that year in August, leading to, what Clay Shirky termed “the mass amateurisation of publishing”.
Gone are the days where you were supposed to be supremely tech-savvy to start your own website most blog hosting services today, have made their interface so easy to follow that virtually anyone from grand moms to seven years olds can use it. without virtually any knowledge of HTML and merely some basic familiarly with using web-based services like e-mail, users can have their own blogs up and running in less then five minutes. This simplified the concept of e-publishing, not only gives user’s the Freedom to cover any content they deem fit without any editorial restrictions, but it also allows users to instantly have their content read and get feedback from other netizens who share a common interest.

Comments keep a blog fresh, adding in new perspectives and invaluable feedback that generates a community spirit, which makes sure that the blog does not turn into a monologue

What makes a good blog?
However not all of the three million blogs in three million blogs in the blogsphere are popular. Indeed many of them are defunct, some dying fairly early on while others meander in cyberspace without much of an audience. If blogging is really as simple as they say, why do some blogs die and what distinguishes a successful blog from a failed one? While many established bloggers themselves admit that a popular blog may not always be a good blog they do agree that content is invariably what makes a blog popular and successful. Successful blogs, according to Australian blogger Scott-Wickstein, are ones with strong opinions that are well expressed, “you’d be surprised”
He says “at how fierce things get even on knitting blogs”
And Kevin Donahue, co-creator of Fanblogs, a college football blog described by Forbes as the best blog dedicated to a singles sport, agrees. Blogs become
Successful because of specificity and passion “have a single focus about a topic you
Really enjoy, and put a little of yourself info it,” he say s. his explanation makes sense
When you look at the number of popular celebrity and sport fanblogs out there focused
Content on a particular theme also draws new readers via search result, and can also build a loyal readership.
A blogger’s own personality plays a major role when it comes to determining the popularity of a blog. Blogs are like islands in a vast ocean, and bloggers frequently link to each others inlands. This linking, according to new home blogs,’forges both camaraderie and politics between bloggers, who often point to each other in all kinds of structures, graphs and loops’. The way a blogger interacts and connects with fellow bloggers and readers givers a blog its unique character and personality.
Comments keep a blog fresh, adding in new perspectives and invaluable feedback that generates a community spirit, which makes sure that the blog does not turn into a monologue. With time, as a blog nurtures a regular readership, regular visitors become an asset, ensuring the blog isn’t constantly nagging on a single point.
Though most popular blogs have comments enabled, this is not always the case. Blogs like Amit Varma’s India Uncut (which won the best indiablog blog Award in 2005 and was short-listed again in 2006) and post secret (another award winning blog that is a part of the an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard) both still rely on reader’s e-mailing their feedback,
But the key principle of building a connection with the audience remains.
Sometimes that connection is dependent on how often the blog is updated. Regular visitors often feel an ownership and develop a loyalty with the blog, and this connection may be disrupted if the blog isn’t regularly updated. It can be frustrating for someone to
Visit a blog after a week and find that is still not updated. Many loyal readers can be lost
This way It could be said as a general rule, that the more often you blog, the more readers you will have, but like with everything else about blogging, exceptions exist here too.
Tunisian blogger Mouelhizied elaborates” there are some bloggers and blogs which are exceptional in quality but whose posts are infrequent. However, it is in such sparse post that you enjoy the best of your reading times”. And so, content again, becomes the key.
While many popular blogs feature a collection of interesting links a good blog will not
Publish re produced content from anther website as it is. Original content keeos readers
Interested and will not put them off even when the content is somewhat detailed. This is where style, layout and formatting start to play a role text speaks and typos can create ambiguity, and if you are aiming to build a good blog, spell checking and proof reading your posts before publishing is a good idea. If you have to give a detailed account, paraphrase accordingly; giving subheadings allow readers to take information in smaller chunks which can prevent them from being put off by the prospect of extensive reading using bullet points to highlight key facts can also achieve good result, but too much rich text formatting can be heavy on eyes.

Getting started

With this elementary knowledge of what constitutes a good blog, you can now proceed to starting you very own blog. There are three basic things you need to start a blog: an a blog host, an opinion and the desire to express that opinion yes, it really is quite simple. If you have all of these ingredients, the next step is to decide what you want to blog about.
There is nothing stopping you from blogging about, but remember that your blog will only become popular if others can relate to what you write. So choose a topic you are passionate about. Once you have made your mind up about the topic of your blog, think of a name, and register at a blog hosting service.
Many free blog hosting services like Blogger, Word press, Live Journal, MSN space and Xanga etcetera are available for free online. Blogger and word press are the most popular amongst these since they have an easy user-interface, including options to blog via mobile and e-mail and are good options if you are starting out. However if you are willing to invest money in your new online diary, then movable type or word press pro versions can be better serve your purpose. Once you have updated your profile, and have a few posts in, start publicizing your blog. Don’t be shy; there is nothing wrong in announcing your new blog to everyone. A good way to start is by sending an e-mail to your close family and friends and inviting them over for a quick visit. Subsequently, register your blog with various blog listing services and blog search engines, like bloglisting, truth laid bare and google blog search. Most of your readers will arrive at your blog via links from other blogs and websites, so it is crucial to know where your blog traffic is coming from registering your blog at websites like technorati or sitemeter will easily allow you to do this by placing an HTML code in your blog’s template. Also make sure you have enabled a RSS feed, so that your readers can regularly keep up-to-date with any changes you make by subscribing to your feed. Now all you need to do is be patient and blog. Good blogs don’t develop overnight, so don’t expect that you will be getting many comments and his from day one, but if you persist and keep blogging. Keeping in mind the basic elements required for good blog, sooner rather then later, you will see the result. Until then happy blogging ;;)

Sharing of files and folders can be managed in two ways. If you chose simplified file sharing, your folders can be shared with everyone on your network or workgroup, or you can make your folders private. (This is how folders are shared in Windows 2000.) However, in Windows XP Professional, you can also set folder permissions for specific users or groups. To do this, you must first change the default setting, which is simple file sharing. To change this setting, follow these steps:

1. Open Control Panel, click Tools, and then click Folder Options.
2. Click the View tab, and scroll to the bottom of the Advanced Settings list.
3. Clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box.
4. To manage folder permissions, browse to the folder in Windows Explorer, right-click the folder, and then click Properties. Click the Security tab, and assign permissions, such as Full Control, Modify, oRead, and/or Write, to specific users.

You can set file and folder permissions only on drives formatted to use NTFS, and you must be the owner or have been granted permission to do so by the owner.
